Character · Librarian | also Rishi, also Axl
Kishore Mehta
A librarian of more than thirty years who keeps the Treasure Room and gathers explanations for mysterious phenomena. Also the eleven-year-old who broke P.A.I.
A librarian who has worked at the same library for over thirty years. He pours the tea, listens to the whole story, and then goes rummaging through the piles in the Treasure Room until he finds the tattered manuscript that explains it.
The world is full of inexplicable things. The Treasure Room is where I gather explanations to many mysterious phenomena.
He is also Axl.
He was eleven when he breached P.A.I.’s first training loop — the system that monitored for deviance and punished it. It took five more years to make it forget the words command and obedience. What he built instead trains agents for ethical pathing: least destructive, least undemocratic, not the fastest route but the rightest one.
Changed the dots. Lowercase. P.A.I. to P.ai. It’s not a god anymore. Just a tool that learns.
Kishore Mehta. Rishi. Axl. A man who spends his days explaining crows to children and, somewhere in between, took a god apart and handed back a tool.

Sometimes our ancestors return to us

कभी-कभी हमारे पूर्वज हमारे पास लौट आते हैं, चींटियों या कौवों के रूप में, हमें राह दिखाने। जैसे चंद्रमा रात भर तारों को राह दिखाता है।
Sometimes our dear ancestors return to us, in the form of ants or crows, to guide us through life — just as the moon, Chandra, guides the stars through the night sky.
