A faceted salt lamp glowing on a low base, brass nodes and fine wire strung across its surface

Obj-SL/AAS

Salt Lamp sensor

Found in Aasma's shack. Possibly a hybrid memory-storage or sensing device from the early Resistance era. Possibly just a lamp that has been listening for a long time.

Recovered

Recovered from a plank-walled room with straw on the floor, where it had been sitting in the middle of the space giving off a low red glow and no heat worth speaking of.

The catalogue cannot decide what it is. Hybrid memory-storage, or a sensor, or both, or a lamp that has been in one room long enough to have opinions about it. The distinction matters less than the cataloguers would like: a lamp records whether or not anyone intended it to.

It sat in the middle of the floor, lit, in a room someone was living in.

  • Salt Lamps: Crystalline lamps of Khewra salt blended with hysterons, carved into precision lattices that record, reflect and relay. They are not Himalayan salt, which was always a marketing scam.
  • Aasma: A clever, fast-talking girl living on the fringes of the surveillance grid, who knows which corners the cameras have never learned.
  • Hysterons: Memory materials, Nitinol and other Shape Memory Materials, blended into the salt. Combined with halite under the right compression and lattice integrity, the result can remember.
